Video: Did Jesus Exist?

It surprises me that people still question Jesus’ existence.  No other individual from antiquity with this much textual attestation has their existence questioned and attacked like Jesus.   My theory on why people still question his existence is due to their disbelief of his supernatural claims and miracles, which is grounded in naturalistic presuppositions.  Not that this is probabbly news to a lot of you.

Just my $.02.

May this video be a blessing to you.

  1. As an ex-Christian I found your video interesting and well-presented, but not convincing. You failed to mention the fact that the gospels, for example, are known not to have been written by the traditional authors (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). Some of the works attributed to Paul are either known to have not been written by him or are in question. Josephus contains known and widely acknowledged Christian interpolations and most if not all of the secular sources you mentioned have serious credibility issues.

I am undecided on the issue of whether a historical Jesus lived or not, but the more research I do the more I lean toward the Mythicist position. That reality, in my opinion, doesn’t make me “radical”. It makes me honest.

But, whether Jesus lived or not is far from being the issue that is most important to me. Whether he lived in history or not, the fact remains that the evidence for the existence of God is severely lacking if not nonexistent, and the problems with believing the Bible to be the inerrant and infallible “word” of a god are legion.

All of that said, I will be linking to your blog. Have a great day!

    • It wasn’t my video actually, it was from CARM.org. Can you post some references regarding the contested authorship of the gospels?

Thanks for chiming in. : )

  2. Hi Neil, I would be happy to do so. For starters, check out these links:

    http://www.rejectionofpascalswager.net/jesus.html#sources

    http://www.rejectionofpascalswager.net/bibleanalysis.html#author

I can provide other sources if you’d like. I recommend spending some time at that site beyond just reading the info at those links. It’s written by a very educated Ex-Christian who has been an atheist for quite some time now.

    Take care. 🙂
